Why I Do It

Thanks everybody who reads and comments on my blog. It is very encouraging for me. Some of you may be wondering why I write this blog.

Well, I do it because it feels good helping others. I do it because of the comments I get and the way people feel when they read my blog. I do it because it is something that I can share with others and hopefully benefit them in some way.

After a little while I began to look at the search phrases people used to find my blog. It broke my heart when I saw the things they searched for. I don’t know anything about these people at all, other than they have problems and want to get their lives on track again. People are looking for answers. People want and need help. Some people feel desperate and out of options, not knowing what to do. There is too much unnecessary pain an suffering in the world. These people do not need to struggle when others can help them. I’ve said it before: Life can be a struggle, but it doesn’t have to be. That’s why I do it.

I am glad to offer hope and inspiration to those who need it and whatever else I can to make other people’s lives better. It is definitely worth it.

Eric

Possible Website… Please Comment!

I want to share my attitude and perspective on life and inspire and help people reach their potential in life. I want to make others happy and help them enjoy life.

Since my blog has become popular, I am considering starting a website consisting of my blog and forums for readers to share and discuss their life experiences, and to help and support one another overcome their challenges and struggles. The website will be very much like this blog, but much more in-depth, dealing with topics ranging from:

  • Happiness, enjoying life, what works: Helping people become happy
  • Dreams, passions, hope: What people want out of life.
  • Inspiration, accomplishment, potential, goals: Helping get what they want out of life.
  • Current life struggles, help and support, encouragement: Helping people find their way in life
  • Life experiences, lessons learned, perspective on life: People sharing what they’ve learned, their outlook.

I am pretty excited about this because I would love to be able to help people. Please post your thoughts and comments below and let me know if you’d be interested in something like this.

Thanks and keep having a great day,

Eric

Tips For Writing a Great Blog

Posted on May 27, 2008. Filed under: Misc, Writing | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

A few people have asked me about tips for writing a blog and how to get more readers. Here are some tips that should help you improve your blog. I’ll offer what advice I can…

My credentials: I don’t really have any, other than I write passionately about what I am interested in and passionate about. I get about 400 pageviews a day, but I also post a few times a day as well. I don’t link to or promote this blog. What I write gets chosen by you. I offer it; you read it. That’s it.

If there is any key to successful writing it is: write about something that energizes you.

Go through this list of tips and keep track of which ones you already do and which ones you need improvement on. When you’re done, go through it again!

General Tips:

  • Write about something you like/enjoy.
  • Say what you think and what’s on your mind. Be honest.
  • Write like crazy, until your fingers hurt.
  • Style and personality: it will make itself evident if you write what you are passionate about.
  • Writing great content helps. It gets recognized and acknowledged by people.

Specific Tips:

  • Use good titles
  • Proofread and edit your posts.
  • Use proper spelling and grammar. Don’t get sloppy or lazy.
  • Tweak it. See how it looks and make appropriate changes.
  • Update posts with new and additional information.
  • Write short paragraphs for your readers. Comfort is everything when reading and big chunky paragraphs are hard on the eyes and easy to lose your place. People usually scan when reading on the net.
  • Keep it brief, but not too brief. People have a lot to do during the day and can’t spend all their time reading your post. Be concise, but explain yourself adequately. Don’t drown your readers in details.
  • Don’t bore your readers, and whatever you do, don’t write like a encyclopedia. Don’t be technical. People read blogs because of their causal style and to read others’ personal thoughts and experiences.
  • Use bulleted lists (like this one) to list items or to emphasize several main points.
  • Follow-up posts with comments and become involved in discussion. Stir interest by asking your readers a question.

I think titles matter, because people won’t click it if the title doesn’t interest them. The first few lines of your post matter for the same reason, and I’m working on that…

The best advice I can offer for this is general advice: write what you are passionate about and others will be interested in reading it. Don’t bore your readers. If it doesn’t interest you passionately, write about something else. Readers can tell whether or not you are interested in what you’re writing about.

I am Inspired by You.

Posted on May 25, 2008. Filed under: Inspirational, Life, Me, You | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

I am inspired when I hear of a person triumphing over a challenge that is thought to be impossible. I don’t mean climbing mountains, I mean real people living regular lives that overcome extraordinary challenges they face. It is encouraging to know what people are capable of doing and overcoming.

Some of the challenges people have to deal with are not fair. They did not deserve it. But that happens. That’s life. It is not fair when a curveball forever changes a person’s life, but that is the way it is. All the person can do is decide where they go from there and how they live their life. Some people live the rest of their lives bitter and miserable, resenting their situation in life, while others try to make the best of what they have and go on to inspire others like you and me. Each time a person overcomes such a challenge, they open up the possibilities of human ability to others.

People are capable of dealing with the most tremendous challenges and overcoming them, only to face (and overcome) even greater challenges. Human spirit wins. Determination and perseverance and a lot of stubbornness can go a long ways. People fight for life and what they believe in and don’t give up in this struggle of life.
